Important Update on Customs Policies Effective February 4, 2025

Starting February 4, 2025, small-volume imported goods from mainland China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will no longer qualify for the De Minimis tariff exemption policy for processed goods valued at less than $800.

Key changes:

  1. Tariffs: Imports from China will incur an additional 10% tariff in their respective categories.
  2. Customs Declarations: Goods will be processed through either informal or formal customs declaration procedures, depending on their value.

Please note that customs clearance times may increase due to these procedural changes. Plan your logistics accordingly.

Declaration Requirements:

  • Informal Entry (value $0 to $250):
    • Duty will be calculated based on the H.S. Code provided.
  • Formal Entry (value above $250):
    • Duty will be calculated based on the H.S. Code provided.
    • Consignee’s Tax ID or Social Security Number will be required. Other documents, such as Power of Attorney, might be required.

Shipper / Factory Requirements:
Shipper / Factories must provide complete and accurate commercial invoice data, including:

  • A detailed description of the goods.
  • The HTSUS classification (10 digits).
  • The country of origin (manufacturing location).
  • The MID (Manufacturer Identification Number)
  • The Tax ID or Social Security Number of the final consignee for shipments over $250.
